A maintenance employee was replacing a roller adjuster on a piece of equipment and was attempting to remove a bearing from the left side of a solid steel shaft. The right end of the shaft slipped out of its bearing and dropped suddenly. The left end of the shaft then moved in an upward direction and pinched his left thumb between the bearing and the machine frame, resulting in amputation of the fingertip and nail. | |||||
